Things, Ghias and Buggies

Not sure what I liked better? Things, Ghias and Buggies on the street? You would get looks in either one I guess but I really think the Buggy would not only be the fast one but get great gas mileage to boot!

So aside from the Things, Ghias and Buggies at this show that happens every year there are more Volkswagens than just that.

You can pretty much get everything VW made and then some. Some Oval Window Type 1’s show up. Along with quite a few Convertible Beetles. Kinda one of my favorites as I had one I bought for $300 in the late 1980’s. Looked great until you looked under the floor pans and say an extreme amount of rust. So mush that when I hit a curd once it pushed the front wheel so far back that it totaled it 🙁

So aside from that a bunch of Things show up for this event. Funny how I can say Things and it means a specific model of Volkswagen. Anyway from custom to stock Acapulco Things show up for this even. Then quite a few Ghia’s show up too. Of course that would be yet another of my favorites as I had a disc brake equipped Karman Ghia way back in the mid late 80’s. Was a rather fun and good handling car. Got great gas milage and I so wish I had never sold it but, it as usual had some serious rust issues. Not really in the floor but, in the headlight buckets and front fenders.

Then you get some of the other VW’s of interest like the Square Backs and a Fast Back. I never had either of those models but, would take on in a second if offered to me. My friend got a Square back in the early 90’s and we had a lot of fun with it. Well thats until he rolled it over in his back yard video taping it.

Someone in his family then recorded over the tape so it couldn’t be used for YouTube in the not to distant future 🙁
