Traded ’70 Chevelle
Traded ’70 Chevelle
So yeah it would seem he got a killer deal, especially seeing that he got new Quarter Panels and a ton of other new Yeah One sheet metal with the car.
Not everything came up roses however as he just told me that what we thought was a 350 is only a lowly 307. Transmission seems to be a Powerglide too so this car will be less then thrilling once it’s on the street. However you don’t see many Chevelle’s on the roads these days so no matter what is powering it, you will not see another one coming down the street at you.
Update on the Chevelle project started oh so long ago. It has now been changed into a 454SS clone. In doing so it was found that the body was way to far gone to sensibly be fixed. Even with all the Year One sheet metal it came with it did not get close to covering all the rotted out corner pieces and odd parts.
So the frame has been sandblasted and painted along with a 454/T400 combo now sitting in place of the 307 Powerglide drivetrain. Then another 70 Chevelle that had spent most of it’s life as a Drag Car was found for a body that was much more solid. Still not perfect but a heck of a lot easier to finish off than the original. When I was last at the garage the frame was on the ground with the 454 and Th400 in it for start up and test purposes. The body was up on 55 gallon drums or something so the body guys could do their work fixing up the floors and rockers before it go’s back to the frame. I then will hopefully get some more video footage of the restored clone on the road 🙂
