Avanti driven to Carlisle
Avanti driven to Carlisle
I happened to be off work for a week and upon mentioning that was drafted as a driver to take a small convoy or cars to the Carlisle PA swap meet. So unsure what I would be stuck driving, I was hoping to get the Diesel Cadillac just so I could say I drove one at one time in my life. Well someone else claimed the Caddy but at least I did get a ride in it. It is on this site.
So when we got to the storage garage I got handed the keys to a 39k original mile Avanti 🙂
This one was a later model with a Corvette Small Block 350 and an overdrive automatic in it. The car sounded throaty at idle or when you reved the throttle and road rather stiff like a Vette on the pot holes. Jeez the amount of people that came over to see it at the HESS gas station wasn’t even funny! Damn car had a crowd around it with people asking me if it was a Maserati or who made it? Kind of hard to tell then it was an Avanti when they asked me well who makes it?
Would be aven harder to tell them it’s a Studebaker right 😛 OK OK it’s not anymore but, would have been worth quite a bit more if it was still a Studebaker with the round headlights. Don’t know how much power if would have with the Stude 289 though? Then again if it was the Supercharged R2 289 it may have been snotty. Well it was a 289 289HP I think so HP wide it may just keep up with the LT1 that is now powering this later generation model. Unsure if the weight of the Stude 289 so it is all up in the air as to wether it would be anything more that a collector thing.
