Mad Frenchman 6cyl Maverick 10.5
Some video views of the Mad Frenchmen’s Maverick pulling some Mid-Tens in the quarter-mile with the six-cylinder in his Maverick at Island Dragway ๐ฏ
Unfortunately when I saw this car race I had no idea what was its significance of this drivers history. I thought it was mostly a Homebuilt six-cylinder maverick done by the driver and owner. Turns out that were not the case as can be read by the original builder of the engine below in the comments. Saw the car many times at Island and Raceway Park racing but never stopped long enough to talk to the owner more in-depth on the car. Unfortunately while looking for more information I learned the owner Clem passed on around 2012 ๐
Was a rather interesting watching pulling wheelies off the line with just the six-cylinder power and the Maverick was trapping 125mph doing it ๐ฏ Especially considering he designed and built most of the motor himself. I like when somebody puts us much work and thought into design of their own and it works out.
I did see the car for sale in Raceway Park Englishtown New Jersey but, again I didn’t put any thought into it as I had no idea of its history. Now I have to keep my eyes open and ears open for anything that seems interesting @ Englishtown. Matter fact maybe it was the Pinks show at Englishtown that I saw this car? Matter of fact you may frown but, I actually like the Pinks show and it was awesome that it brought cars from all over for that event. Maybe they’ll figure it out and come out with another event like this that will bring cars and everything to the dragstrip for everybody to see. No matter how much everybody hated Rich Christiansen he still brought some decent shows and bottle action out to Englishtown. We need more events like this to make things fun again at the Drag Strips.

The name on the hood scoop, “Magnum Six”, is a clue to this cars history. My brother Dick & I built the “Magnum Six” Maverick in 1974 and raced it in NHRA’s H/MP through 1976, running low 11.20s. We sold it to Clem in 1978 and helped him run it at the Summernationals in Englishtown that year where he red lighted in the first round unfortunately.
Incidentally we ran the car at the Gatornationals in 1974. When Clem bought the car he graciously put our name on the hood scoop which was an extremely nice thing to do. Secrets to the car’s performance in the early days were the hours and hours of dyno time on our Go Power engine dyno. I have pictures of that engine on the dyno along with copies of Raceway Park newsletter
With shots of the car
Great memories and RIP Clem – You were a true gentleman
Hello Bob glad you could clear up a bit of the information on this Maverick. Anything I got was from a Super Stock page somewhere. Thats how I found out about Clems passing and that I would never get to see him at the track and get some of this information first hand ๐
I will update the page when I get a chance to clarify this in my eyes amazing car!
